Finding Safe Harbor

When Katherine found herself suddenly hospitalized, her first worry turned to her beloved kitty, Jewel. With no family in the area, she had no one to help care for her cat while she dealt with her health issues.

Thanks to PAWS’ Safe Harbor Program, we were able to take Jewel to our cat sanctuary and provide her with a safe, loving space for the extended period that Katherine was unable to care for her.

PAWS is the only animal welfare organization in Kitsap County to provide temporary, short term boarding for both cats and dogs while their owner is experiencing a personal crisis such as an accident, hospitalization, fire or domestic violence. Last year, PAWS provided a safe space for the pets of 18 local families who were experiencing a personal crisis.

Today Jewel is back home with Katherine and the two of them have moved to Texas to be closer to Katherine’s family. Jewel keeps the family entertained every day!
